由政府拨款，新西兰的理工学院目前共有19所，新西兰大学的学位由新西兰大学校长委员会下设的学术委员会批准，Wanganui) Waiariki Institute of Technology Waikato Institute of Technology Wellington Institute of Technology Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki Whitireia Community Polytechnic 4所教导学院 Auckland College of Education Wellington College of Education Christchurch College of Education Dunedin College of Education 部分可以由本校颁发学士学位的私立院校名单 Auckland Institute of Studies at St Helens International Pacific College，新西兰还有许多招收外国学生的私立培训机构及语言学校。
而理工学院及极少数私立高级教导学校所授的文凭由新西兰资格认证局 (NZQA) 负责审批和监督。
包含短期课程和三年制、四年制的专业学位、文凭、证书课程。
