1:Holiday
- What kind of holiday do you like?
- Without question, my favourite public holiday has to be Spring Festival. There’s nothing better than being reunited with family and feasting on lots of delicious food while you catch up with them. The highlight for me is setting off fireworks and firecrackers, and it brings out the kid in me.
- Do you think the more public holidays the better?
- Without a doubt! I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who didn’t agree. Public holidays give a break from the daily grind, an opportunity to go travelling or just relax at home. It’s nice to have something to look forward to when you are at work.
- What did you do on your lastholiday?
- Last holiday I took a short break to Qingdao with my partner. It’s a seaside city and also famous for its beer, so we hit the beach, soaked up some sun and enjoyed a few glasses. It was nice to have a change of scenery and let our hair down.
- Do you think we should have moreholidays?
- Whilst I would like more holidays, I think we already have a lot of Chinese traditional celebrations and adding more would mean adopting Western holidays, such as Christmas or Easter. For this reason I think we should be cautious as we should not allow too many foreign holidays to dilute our own traditions.
- What do you usually do on traditional holidays in China?
- Holidays in China often revolve around the family and eating! Many people will travel home to see relatives or pay respect to those that have passed away, depending on the festival. A lot of the festivals have a specific type of food that is associated with it, such as zongzi, a kind of rice cake, or moon cakes.
话题2:Collect
Do you collect anything (as ahobby)?
Yes, I’m a casual collector and love to collect postcards. Every time I travel to a place, I’ll buy some postcards, which have hand-painted design and local landmarks. Well, although postcards may not be valuable in themselves, collecting these items help me jot good memory.
What are the benefits ofcollecting?
Well, it’s a terrific hobby for people, as we have to devote a great amount of time to study the background knowledge of certain things. Overall, it’s a good way to expand your knowledge in terms of history, geography and so forth.
Why do some people like collectingthings?
Well, it serves as a distraction that helps people focus on certain things and keep your mind off some bad habits, like smoking or drinking. In other words, collectors may shift more attention to the items of collection, which is a good way to break bad habits and usually modifies their aims later in life.
Do boys and girls usually collect the samethings?
Well, yes, I think. This interest tends to go beyond gender and age barriers. Stamps and coins collecting are normally their first choice, you know, it’s an enjoyable way to learn history. For instance, every coin or stamp has an interesting story to tell about people, places and events.
If you had a lot of money, what would you like tocollect?
Well, if I had sufficient money, I’d get into collecting some luxury handbags, which are in limited editions and may probably appreciate as time goes. I can have a one-of-a- kind from my favourite brand and show off to my peers. Well, at some point, if I had to, I could resell them which may result in large profits.
